WSL2: Yarra Make Light Work Of Westvic

With the pitch resembling a swimming pool more than a hockey pitch, the women’s firsts were perplexed as to whether snorkels would be an appropriate accessory for the match ahead. Despite the conditions, the girls took to the pitch with a positive outlook on an otherwise miserable Sunday afternoon.

Perhaps a little more conditioned to the testing winter conditions, the girls from cold old Ballarat started with gusto, rattling Yarra somewhat. But after a bit of adaptation to the style of hockey Westvic were playing, Yarra found their stride and started putting the ball where it belongs, in the back of the net!

In a match which was ultimately a battle between brain and brawn, Yarra prevailed by out-witting the opposition with smart play and persistence.

Final score:  5 – 1 in favour of Yarra.

A strong showing for the start of the season has seen Yarra move into fourth place on the ladder. They are on equal points with both Powerhouse (3rd) and Southern (5th) with goal difference separating the three. Next match is against Powerhouse and will be an important game that will separate this cluster of teams.

Go Yarra!
