Club History

The Club was formed in 1977 with the amalgamation of the Fairfield Hockey Club (established 1906) and the Ivanhoe Hockey Club (established 1930).

The Ivanhoe club supplied two players for Australia's first Olympic Hockey Team (1956) - Ken Clarke (Captain) and Geoff Bennett.

From 'tenant' status at Chelsworth Park (Ivanhoe) and John Cain Park (Thornbury), the club now operates from a state of the art facility located at Cyril Cummins Reserve (67 Liberty Parade, Bellfield - Melways 31, C4).

Current State League 1 Men's teams compete for the 'Fairfield Cup' named in honour of that club's achievement in being the first State League club to win three premierships 1906/1909/1910.  Yarra Valley is still the only modern club to achieve the SL1 premiership (1982) the year following promotion from SL2.

In 2010, Yarra Valley will field 15 men's and women's senior and veteran's teams and 19 junior teams - up from 21 teams total in 1995.Its membership of 400+ makes it one of the largest and fastest growing in Victoria.
