Attention all players born in the years: 1998, 1999, 2000
The following provides information regarding Victorian Primary School Sports Association Hockey trials and competition. This competition is run by the education department and seeks to select a team of hockey players to represent Victoria in a National Primary School competition. The schools competition is completely separate from the normal club competition and there is no restriction to participating in both.
Yarra Valley Hockey Club has a proud tradition of having members selected for the schools competition and we would love to see that tradition continue. Even if you are in Year 7 you can still participate provided you were born in one of the years above.
Should you wish to try out (and it's a fantastic experience just to trial) please follow the steps below:
-
If in Grade 4, 5, or 6, go to page 111 and download the application form.
-
If in Grade 7, go to page 114 and download the application form.
-
Take the completed form to your school sports co-ordinator ASAP and advise you want to be considered to represent your school's district. District nominations are required by the zone co-ordinator by 25 March.
-
If your sports co-ordination requires more information, they need to contact the Hockey Convenor, Annette Stott at Ivanhoe Primary School as follows: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it (details on page 7 of handbook).
-
Should you progress through the trials and get selected in the final team, the national competition will be run from the 8-13 of August on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
(this is a very large document so it will take a while).
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!
2010 Winter Season
The main winter season starts April 16th / 17th (first weekend of term 2).
From U11 to U17, Hockey Victoria conducts competitions in each age-group based on skill levels – A grade, Pennant and District. Pennant and District competitions are then divided again (depending on numbers in a division) on skill levels and geographic areas (eg. ‘Pennant North/South’ etc). Games are played as follows:
Friday Night - U13 Mixed, U15 Girls & U15 Mixed, U17 Girls & U17 Mixed – usually at 5.55pm, 7.05pm, 8.15pm and 9.25pm, with younger age-groups early time-slots.
Saturday morning - U9 (always mixed), U11(always mixed), U13 Girls. Games are usually scheduled at 8.35am, 9.45am and 10.55am.
Junior training will start in March dependant on coach availability. All juniors are invited to do preseason training with the summer skills program (U9 – U15) or train preseason with the Seniors (U17).
Club Registration Day for winter season was Sunday 14 Feb, 11–3pm.
Uniforms
Yarra uniforms can be viewed at www.yarravalleyhockey.com.au where an order form can be downloaded. The Yarra shirt is generally required. Blue shorts and socks can also be ordered there. Yarra shirts are available for U9’s first year players to borrow for their first year to save costs until sports decisions are made. There are a range of used sticks and shin pads available for loan also.
