Selection Policy (Womens)

YVHC WOMENS SELECTION POLICY - FOR PLAYERS

For season 2010 the following will apply for women’s teams.

We have 5 Women’s teams in 2010 they are as Follows

State League 2

Pennant B

Metro 1N

Metro 2N

Metro 4N

Selection for these teams will be as follows.

SL2- Will be the best possible team that meets selection criteria

PB- Will be the best possible team that meets selection criteria

M1N- Junior ENTRY level team, this team will consist of 3 permanent seniors. If there are no Juniors READY for PB from this team, players will be taken from M2N.

M2N- Best possible team

M4N- Best possible team/social

  • All players wanting to play in the 1sts are expected to train twice a week and will need to meet certain fitness targets set by coach.
  • Preseason will be part of the selection for teams; an attendance book will be there for girls to sign to say they attended training.
  • 2nds players will need to train a minimum of once a week, ideally twice and will need to meet certain fitness targets set by coaches.
  • All players are expected to play in the team they are selected unless prior arrangements are made at the start of the season eg. With Family. Of course there is flexibility for work arrangements.
  • Otherwise the social team is the 5ths

Exceptions for the above will be,

  • Players working on their hockey/fitness outside of training times because of their inability to make the two nights of training. This should not apply to SL2 girls. (It would be hard to pick a girl who does not train with the team during the week.)
  • Juniors who have a heavy work load. Coaches will manage juniors not to overload their training

If a player misses training during the week, she must make arrangements with their coach for skills work to do at home to cover areas missed.

Teams will be selected on Tuesday nights from the top side to the bottom side.

Selection committee will comprise of the coaches and the Chairman of selectors

Player’s queries on selection should always be directed to the coaches.

If issues are unresolved then players can go to the chairman of selectors.

Chairman of Selectors for season 2010 is Carly McGinniskin

Players are expected to show a positive attitude and follow directions given by coaches

YVHC WOMENS SELECTION POLICY – FOR COACHES

Coaches must do selection on Tuesday nights after training.

Of course there is the possibility to make changes eg. player availability/injury, team balance etc.

Coaches must personally tell players who have been dropped from their team. Ideally telling the player what they are to work etc, or it’s for disciplinary reasons.

Coaches will communicate with each other

Coaches will communicate with each other in relation to player development,

Eg. I have dropped player X and they need to work on……

Coaches will get together to review the season NO LESS than 4 times during the season.

Before season starts,

 Round 4,

Round 10

Round 15

This will be done with the coaches, chairman of selectors and Women’s Representative.
